The four stories and the characters in them, are based on real life situations, which the author, Clare Fitzgibbon encountered during two years as a VSO volunteer with Hospice Uganda in Mbarara.

Hospice exists in Uganda, not as a building for the dying, but a philosophy of care for those living with cancer or AIDS.

The book is colour illustrated and is complemented by an information section on Uganda for teachers, parents and others.
